Testimonials

I am very pleased with the work provided by Toronto Home Movies in converting some family home movies from film reels to dvd, and some audio cassette tapes to CD. They were instrumental to us in preserving this terrific footage, which almost feels like you're using a time machine to witness events of the past. And the best is that these family movies will be preserved and available for future generations. I was impressed with their assistance, attention to detail, and ability to do the conversions in a good timeframe. If you are looking for a business to take care of your film mementoes, I recommend them.

Thank you for a great job, well done.

Hi8 to DVD

Hi8
We understand how precious your tapes are, and will work tirelessly for you to turn old Hi8 camcorder tapes into impressive DVD home movies. Whether in person or over the phone, our team of editors and digital specialists are here to answer any and all of your questions. We challenge you to find a better quality transfer than ours.

If your home movies are stored on Hi8 tapes, we at Montreal Home Movies can convert these memories into virtually any new format. The most popular of course being DVD. However we do have customers that would prefer to edit their footage and request the uncompressed Hi8 footage on a portable hard drive. In some cases, MiniDV tape or in the least favorite (costs $5 per disk) on DVD as .avi or .dv. We specialize though in Hi8 to DVD transfers and we guarantee your satisfaction with our work. Please see our export section for all your output options with Hi8 tapes. As a professional video production studio we use the highest quality equipment to transfer your analogue footage to DVD.  For your digital tapes we use digital decks. We run analogue tapes on our digital remastering system improving picture and sound.
History of Hi8 Tapes:
In 1987, Sony introduced Video Hi8 to counter the introduction of SVHS. Thus, the Hi8 is not all that dissimilar from SVHS; using improved recorder electronics and media-formulation to increase picture quality, a higher-grade videotape and recording-head allowed the placement of the luminance-carrier at a higher frequency. Both Hi8 and SVHS were officially rated at a luminance resolution of 560×480. The only difference between Hi8 and SVHS was that Hi8 was more compact and could fit into cameras which could be held in your hand, making it more convenient for home movies whereas SVHS tapes were designed for large cameras that operate over the shoulder.
At Montreal Home Movies, we have a wealth of experience with Hi8 technology. We therefore get many requests for Hi8 to DVD transfers. Using only professional equipment we ensure Hi8 to DVD transfers are the highest possible quality. We guarantee your satisfaction with our work. If you want to learn more about the Hi8 to DVD transfer process, check out our Remastering section. However, we also do much more with Hi8 tapes than simply Hi8 to DVD transfers.

We also accommodate those who wish their memories transferred from Hi8 to MiniDV tapes. You can also have your Hi8 tape transferred directly onto your hard drive in .dv or .avi formats. Or if you want to upload it directly to your website, we can convert it to Flash 8 file. For more options for your Hi8 tape, please see our export section.
