Testimonials

I am very pleased with the work provided by Toronto Home Movies in converting some family home movies from film reels to dvd, and some audio cassette tapes to CD. They were instrumental to us in preserving this terrific footage, which almost feels like you're using a time machine to witness events of the past. And the best is that these family movies will be preserved and available for future generations. I was impressed with their assistance, attention to detail, and ability to do the conversions in a good timeframe. If you are looking for a business to take care of your film mementoes, I recommend them.

Thank you for a great job, well done.

Super8 with Sound to DVD

Product Summary

Usingthe same technique as standard 8mm to DVD conversions, At Montreal Home Movies we are able to ensure high quality 8mm with sound to DVD conversion with digitized audio. We also offer all the same additional options with your 8mm with sound film. Please see our export section regarding these options.

Product Description
8mm and Super8 film for the most part is silent. The original Super8 film release was a silent system only, but in 1973 a sound on film version was released. This version only made up 5 – 8% of Super8 sales and therefore was discontinued in the 1990s. The sound film had a magnetic soundtrack and came in larger cartridges than the original so as to accommodate a longer film path. This was required for smoothing the film movement before it reached the recording head. There was also a second aperture for the recording head. Sound cameras were compatible with silent cartridges, but not vice versa. Sound film was typically filmed at a speed of 18 or 24 frames per second.

At Montreal Home Movies, we are fully capable of transferring 8mm with sound to DVD. We use the same technique in converting your Super8 sound film to DVD as we do with converting 8mm to DVD. In addition though, we record the sound directly from the projector and digitize it to CD quality. Adjustments are made to improve hiss, pops and volume to the best of our abilities.

All the same additional options are available with your 8mm with sound film as with any other format we deal with. Please see our export section to learn more.
