Testimonials

I am very pleased with the work provided by Toronto Home Movies in converting some family home movies from film reels to dvd, and some audio cassette tapes to CD. They were instrumental to us in preserving this terrific footage, which almost feels like you're using a time machine to witness events of the past. And the best is that these family movies will be preserved and available for future generations. I was impressed with their assistance, attention to detail, and ability to do the conversions in a good timeframe. If you are looking for a business to take care of your film mementoes, I recommend them.

Thank you for a great job, well done.

Product Description:

The compact audio cassette tape was introduced in Europe by Philips in 1963 and the United States the following year. Despite having other magnetic tape cartridge systems during it’s release, the compact disc became dominant due to the fact that it was licensed as a format free of charge. It soon became the popular alternative to Long-playing records. It was not until 1964 though, that the cassette tape was put into mass production as prerecorded music cassettes.
In 1971, Advent Corporation designed and released a tape deck which reduced noise; thereby increasing it’s popularity for musical uses. This was the cornerstone for cassette tapes and cassette players. In the 1980s, listening to music on a cassette tape became even more popular thanks to the development of Sony’s walkman. The walkman was a lot more portable and only a bit bigger than the tape itself, making it extremely portable. As the transistor radio defined music in the 1960s, CD players in the 1990s, and MP3 players this decade, the walkman defined music in the 1980s. By the mid 1980s, the cassette tape virtually replaced Long-playing records. However, sales for LP records remained higher due to greater sales of singles. It only took a short amount of time though before the cassette tape achieved greater sales than records by the 1990s. Although cassette tapes are slowly being replaced by CD’s and digital audio files on the computer, the cassette tape still remains quite popular today due to it’s durability. The manufacturing of cassette tapes are falling every year and are continuing to decline. cassette players are already out of production. It’s only a matter of time before cassette tapes will be considered collectables and antiques.
We at Montreal Home Movies are happy to take those old cassette tapes you have lying around and convert them to CD for you. By converting your cassette tapes to CD you can save your collecting forever.
